BMT WBM’s Dr Jane Sargison wins Professional Engineer of the Year Award

Dr Jane SargisonBMT WBM, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the international engineering, maritime and risk management consultancy, is pleased to announce that Jane  has won the Professional Engineer of the Year Award at the Tasmania Division Engineering Excellence Awards 2011.

The award supported by Engineers Australia was judged on the basis of rigorous criteria including engineering competence, demonstrating leadership skills, positive outcomes from engineering work, innovation and community service to industry, the profession and society. As well as Jane's considerable achievements the judges noted the inspiration that Jane has been to many young engineers and potential engineers, particularly women in engineering.

Jane is a Senior Mechanical Engineer with BMT WBM and is a specialist in turbines and energy systems, with 15 years experience across R&D and industry sectors. She was the 1998 Rhodes Scholar for Tasmania and completed her DPhil at the University of Oxford in 2001. During her career in industry, Jane has been involved in the development of cutting edge technologies including her film cooling hole design for gas turbines which has been patented and utilised by Rolls Royce in their aero-engines to reduce fuel usage and improve longevity. Closer to home, Jane has recently applied her skills to the Rainbow Bee Eater project, a scheme that will generate energy from biomass and result in carbon sequestration with negligible cost, creating job opportunities in rural Australia.

Jane's success in the Tasmania Division Engineering Excellence Awards puts her in the running for the national title.
